The second generation Firebird was introduced by Pontiac in 1970, with a strong 11 year
production run. The traditional ‘coke bottle’ styling of the first generation Firebird was replaced
with a smooth roof and rear windshield profile that integrated into the boot. While convertible
body styles were not offered in the second-gen, four coupe models were offered including the
Firebird, Firebird Esprit, Firebird Formula and widely popular Firebird Trans AM.
This particular example is a 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am finished in a subtle white with
contrasting blue decals, including the iconic ‘Firebird’ bonnet logo. The exterior presents
mostly original including the ‘snowflake’ wheels colour matched to the body. Trans Am
specific elements such as the front lip, wheel arch flares, rear deck lip, front quarter vents and
‘shaker’ add to the aggressive and legendary appearance of late 70’s Firebirds.
As for the interior, an array of blue vinyls, velours and plastics feature throughout and make a
strong statement against the white body. Interior elements present well and mostly original
with the addition of an aftermarket Kenwood headunit. Most notably, this Trans Am has been
professionally converted to right hand drive.
The original motor has since been replaced with a 5.7L Chevrolet V8 mated to a 3-speed
automatic transmission. However, the original motor has been retained by the current owner
and will be provided with the sale of this Firebird Trans Am.
