The Falcon XD was introduced in 1979 following the Falcon XC. A redesign was undertaken,
borrowing inspiration from Ford Europe’s Ford Granada Mark II. The XD model range saw the
removal of the 2-door hardtop body shape, but saw the introduction of limited models such as
the European Sports Pack, S Pack and Limited Edition Fairmont Ghia. 302 and 351 ci V8
engine options were available as well as the 3.3 and 4.1 litre straight six. Notable examples
include Dick Johnson’s “Tru-Blue” XD, which won the 1981 James Hardie 1000.
This particular example is a tough factory 351ci V8 1981 Ford Falcon XD with a serious presence on road. The original paint has made way for a rich, deep shade of royal blue that shows its
true colours under the sun. A reverse cowl has been worked into the bonnet to now house the
stout Tremaniac Racing Engines SBF 427ci Street Fighter beneath. This tough XD rolls on a set of centreline autodrags with a pair of 195 front and 275 rear tyres.
The interior is paired back with range of pro street touches throughout. These include
aftermarket steering wheel, centre mounted fire extinguisher, column mounted shift light,
B&M ratchet shifter and dash mounted transmission temp, oil pressure and water
temperature gauges.

motor in more detail. This XD runs a C10 Transmission with reverse pattern and a TCI 5000
stall with transmission work completed by RVO Automatics in Melbourne. A 3-inch chrome
molley tailshaft with Strange Uni joints translates the power to a Ford 9-inch differential with
35 spline axles and tru-track 4.11s.
