Arguably one of the best XY GT Replicas built.
Built by Ben at the GT Shop as his own personal car, the original shell selected was a one owner XY Falcon originally delivered by Bowden Ford in Adelaide SA. Still retaining its original dealers log books, this shell got the nod due to it being a low mileage vehicle with absolutely no accident history and all of its day one original panels. As can be seen on the GT Shop web site, the body was bare metalled before receiving a top of the line panel and paint job in Ford Surfer Orange. The SA plates RHD 948 fitted now match those originally fitted over 50 years ago, as documented in the log books, when delivered from Bowdens.
Using a cleveland D block, the engine received a 393 stroker kit, comp solid roller cam shaft and crower lifters. It was neutral balnced and fitted with a main stud girdle, Scott Cook 4V heads and matching Scott Cook inlet manifold. Providing the spark is an original dual vac Autolite distributor fitted with ICE Ignition internals, a 7 amp ICE ignition system with adjustable timing and rev limiter. Fuel is provided by way of a high volume fuel pump to a Holley 950 ultra hp carby allowing the D block to achieve a dyno figure of 630hp. The rest of the engine bay is classic phase 3 spec with firewall rev limiter, vac tank etc. Genuine dual horns, restored wiper motor, genuine rebuilt radiator, autolite alternator, full metal shaker, part numbered hoses, number stamped shock washers, autolite fan belt etc etc.
The rest of the driveline consists of an 11" centreforce clutch and yella terra flywheel. The toploader gearbox was fully rebuilt and whilst apart the cases received a phosphated finish as did the bellhousing. A custom heavy duty tail shaft was built with Strange chromolly slip yolk and big 1350 solid uni's. The diff centre also received a full rebuild and was fitted with an Eaton Trutrac and genuine Ford 3:70 diff gears. 31 spline Moser axles complete the ensemble. The genuine XY housing is the fitted with HO style finned rear brakes as part of a correct HO braking set up with shock tower mounted proportioning valve.
Extractors are ceramic coated Pacemaker 1 7/8 units bolting to a mandrel bent 3" system to the magnaflow mufflers followed by 2.5" tail pipes. Tail pipes are correctly mounted with bolt up brackets to the rail.
The front end features genuine restored upper and lower control arms with correctly riveted ball joints. genuine tie rods, snake skin brake lines, phosphated stub axles, slotted rotors, rebuilt PBR calipers etc. Also fitted all round are Bilstein performance shocks painted correct factory green.
Exterior wise the PPG Surfer paintwork is complimented by professionally polished stainless trims, genuine bumpers rechromed, new glass all round, correct style phase 3 rear spoiler, raised number driving lights, flat lip bathurst globes with redwalls, big ball aerial, correct wipers, perfect door handles and if you look closely you can see the radiator hang tags through the grille. All doors shut easily.
The interior is immaculate in every way. All new correct hood lining and visors, carpet, seat trims, plastic console, seat belts, reskinned crash pad, arm rests, door handles, window winders etc, GT dash and steering wheel. Plastics are genuine factory black items. The glovebox woodgrain set is a restored factory item with correct grain. Drivers remote mirror as per genuine GT is also fitted, something you dont often see in replicas. Factory style remote boot release. Blue tooth superfringe radio is also fitted with parcel shelf speakers that look just like factory 8 track versions. The boot area has factory style boot mat, redwalled 5 slot spare and genuine jack assembly.
