Description

The HQ emerged in July of 1971, featuring a completely new body design
over the First Generation ‘K,T,G’ models. Some notable changes were the larger rear
window, squarer rear quarters and integrated taillights into the rear chrome bumper. The HQ
Kingswood was a staple of Australian transport in the 70s, offered as the mid-range option in
the HQ model line. While many opted for the 173ci and 202ci inline-6 motors, the optional
253ci and 308ci V8s were popular amongst buyers. As a step up from the base ‘Belmont’, the
Kingswood allowed options such as bucket seats, armrests as standard and additional trims.

This particular immaculate example is a Holden HQ Kingswood that left GMH’s manufacturing
facility in 1974. Since then, this Kingswood has received a full ground up restoration and has
been reimagined in the style of a Monaro GTS. The most notable feature is the paint, based
on Holden’s Purr-Pull’, but with a tint that gives it a different appearance. Monaro GTS
inspired elements have also been incorporated into this build including twin stripes over the
bonnet and boot, fluted guards, new GTS grille, lower black outs to sill, front and rear and
‘350’ only decal to the front quarters. To top it of, this HQ rolls on a set of new satin Centreline
Autodrags and tyres.

The interior presents beautifully with an array of black vinyl with contrasting hounds tooth
inserts. As part of the ground up restoration, the following work was undertaken in the interior:

  • Reupholstered seats

  • New dash pad and door cards

  • New front window

  • All new rubbers and seals

  • Floors covered in black label sound deadener with acoustic stick

  • New front and rear carpets

  • Console dash facia

  • New front and rear seat belts

The running gear has received the same meticulous attention to detail. This HQ now runs a
strong rebuilt 350ci Chevrolet V8, with a Turbo 400 gearbox and 3.08 TrueTrac differential.
Upon request, a breakdown list of the parts used in the 350ci rebuilt can be supplied. In
