The HQ Holden emerged in July of 1971, featuring a completely new body design over the First Generation ‘K,T,G’ models. Some notable changes were the larger rear window, squarer rear quarters and integrated taillights into the rear chrome bumper. The HQ was a staple of Australian transport in the 70s, offered as the mid-range option in the HQ model line. While many opted for the 173ci and 202ci inline-6 motors, the optional 253ci and 308ci V8s were popular amongst buyers. As a step up from the base ‘Belmont’, the Kingswood allowed options such as bucket seats, armrests as standard and additional trims. The well-presented interior compliments the exterior nicely with an array of black vinyl and hounds tooth inserts to the seats and door trims. A GTS style steering wheel has also been installed. A range of pro street touches appear throughout the interior including oil, fuel and water gauges, large column mounted tachometer, shifter light and Hurst Pro-Matic 2 shifter. The original running gear has made way for a very stout setup including a 4-bolt main 350ci Chev, Turbo 350 Transmission and 9” differential. This particular example is a 1973 Holden HQ sedan that has been transformed into a Monaro GTS replica. This HQ now wears a sleek coat of gloss white paint with GTS highlights including fluted front quarters, ‘350’ decals, ‘GTS style grille, GTS badging and twin black stripes over the bonnet and boot. This HQ rolls on a set of staggered centreline autodrag style wheels, with a 165 front and 295 rear tyre showing of it’s pro street nature.
