The XY Falcon was introduced in October of 1970 replacing the popular XW. The XY featured
a facelift over the XW, with a redesigned set of rear taillights and front grille. The XY series is
most noted for its GTHO models, and are considered a legend within the Bathurst realm.
This particular example started life in 1971 as a factory 302ci V8 powered XY Fairmont, with it’s factory colour believed to have been ‘Ultra White’. As it sits today, it has been reimagined into an XY GT replica, with a nut and bolt restoration undertaken in 2011. The project originally began with the acquisition
of this XY from the previous owner located in Orange, New South Wales in 2005.
This XY now wears immaculate ‘Wild Violet’ paintwork with gold side decals and matte black
hood stripes. Special care was taken to replicate the GT details such as the ‘shaker’ hood
scoop, front splitter, ‘GT Ford’ grille badging, ‘351-GT Super Roo’ body stripe, GT 5-slot
wheels with hubcaps, quad driving lights and bumper overrides.
The retrimmed interior presents beautifully, boasting a light cream vinyl seats and door trims,
with black & grey dash, carpet and centre console treatment. Subtle highlights of timber and
stainless present throughout. The manual Toploader centre console also features ‘351’
badging, in honour of an original GT.
During the restoration, this XY ‘GT Replica’ had a fully rebuilt 351ci 2v V8 installed, with 4v
valves, mild port on heads, mild cam, new pistons, rings, bearings, a 750 Holley double
pumper carby and Edelbrock performer manifold utilised in the rebuild. The manual Toploader
transmission was rebuilt along with the differential that features an LSD centre, 3.5 to 1 gears,
billet axles and disc brakes. The front-end suspension and steering were new at the time of
restoration as well as new brake and fuel lines. The fuel tank was ceramic lined and painted
during the process. Original wiring was also tidied up. To top it off, this XY features a genuine
XY K Code air clear and snorkel with a reproduction metal ‘shaker’.
