This ’66 Fairlane 500 was manufactured in Ford’s Kansas City plant in May 1966 as a Fairlane 500 2-dr hardtop coupe. The trim/body plate identifies it as painted in Medium Sage Gold Metallic with Gold interior trim. From the factory this Fairlane was equipped with a driveline which included a 4.7L 289cui V8 Windsor small block engine, a C4 3-spd automatic transmission paired to a 2.80:1 ratio differential and it was delivered to the San Jose, Northern California DSO, where it was sold and has spent all its life.
It still bears it’s original ‘Black & Gold’ Californian no. plates, but the engine has been recently replaced with a 5.8L 351cui-4V V8 Windsor small block. The front bench seat has been replaced with bucket seats; a centre console, floor shift kit and a new carpet kit are also provided with the car. The trunk lid is currently prepared in grey primer and ready for paint.
The car runs & drives great and features Kelsey Hayes front disc brakes, 4-bbl carby & a dual exhaust system. Paint is driver quality only, with some blistering, minor surface rust bubbles, scratches and panel repair evident. The underside is very healthy with only a few pin-hole size rust blemishes in the front floor pans. Bright work and glass are all very good.
This car is a restorer / driver, definately not show condition, but is an ideal platform for your own finishing touches.
