HISTORY OF THE LANDAU IS AS FOLLOWS:

  • Ford records confirm the Landau is Walnut Glow in colour, saddle interior, brown vinyl roof, radio stereo/tape player and the retail dealer code is; Ford Special Vehicles (3999).
  • From available information, it is believed to be the 5th Landau built, in April 1973.
  • The Landau was first registered in Victoria on 8 June 1973 by Ford Australia – LMP 622.
  • No further information is known about this Landau until September 1973.
  • On the 14 September 1973, the Wheels Magazine used the Landau as the ‘road test’ vehicle for the January 1974 edition of the Wheels Magazine.  NoteThe Landau was sold new prior to the magazine release.
  • It is not known when or where the sunroof and interior were fitted to the Landau, however it was after the Wheels Road Test and prior to the new owners purchasing the vehicle.
  • The Landau was delivered to an unknown NSW Sydney Ford dealer.  A husband and wife purchased the Landau in November 1973.  Discussions with the wife confirmed the Landau was purchased as a new vehicle with the electric sunroof, houndstooth interior and standard wheels with turbine hubcaps.
  • They traded the Landau on a smaller car in early 1974.
  • Newspaper advertisements from March - May 1974, show that the Landau was for sale at Geoghegans Recreational Vehicles, Haberfield, NSW.  The advertisements clearly indicate the electric sunroof, houndstooth interior and alloy spoked wheels (ROH Pro Sprints), which appear to have been dealer fitted.
  • A NSW family purchased the Landau in 1974 and it remained in the family to 2014, when I purchased it.

OVERALL CONDITION:

Overall condition is very good.  The Landau is original with all matching numbers.  It is registered and roadworthy (ACT) Historic registration.

EXTERIOR:

Paint – It has had an external paint sometime in its life. Overall, the paint is in very good condition

Twill (vinyl) roof – Original brown twill in good condition, with some lifting.

Panels – overall, the external panels are straight.

All chrome/stainless strips and moulds etc are intact and in good condition.  The front bumper is straight with good chrome.  The rear bar is straight with good chrome.

The front grill is complete and in good condition

Tail lights are in good condition.

INTERIOR

The original interior was brown; however, it has been changed to houndstooth prior to being sold new.  It is original, complete and in overall good condition.

The padded dash is in good condition.  The steering wheel is in very good condition.  The cassette does not work.  The clock works (sometimes).

The electric windows work, however can be temperamental.

The electric sunroof works.

ENGINE BAY:

The engine is original and all numbers are matching.  The engine runs smooth with plenty of power.  It has the original carburettor.  It shows 59000 miles on the speedo.  It does not leak or use any oil.

The power steering, air-conditioning and the vacuum system are all in good working order.

TYRES

They are in good condition on Pro Sprint rims.

RUST

Some minor spots, but overall good for a hardtop.  Bottom of front guards, below the rear window; parcel shelf; under the boot rubber and some bubbling under the vinyl roof.

The Landau does get driven regularly without any problems.  It is not perfect and may need some minor maintenance.

I am interested in selling the vehicle to someone who is interested in buying and happy to answer questions in that regard.

The above description is SUCCINCT and only covers the pertinent details of the vehicle.  If genuinely interested, an INSPECTION is RECOMMENDED (by arrangement).  This is so you can satisfy yourself with questions that may not be covered by the images or description.
